:: Episode 08: Abe's Angsty Past Part One
Sugoi Toushu? (Swell Pitcher?)
Summary
We unfortunately have to leave Mihoshi behind for a while as today's episode begins with Mihashi making his way to practice! He meets up with Sakaeguchi, and the two of them have a really dorky conversation. Mihashi's angry cousin is brought up, as well as Abe's past - before entering high school, he had been in a battery with a really awesome pitcher. This makes Mihashi feel rather uncomfortable!
The club meeting starts, and Shiga fires away with the mental training. He explains that concentration and relaxation is one and the same, and intends to teach them how to relax on purpose. The team sits down and forms a hand-holding circle of love.
After a short while of sitting around being heartwarming, it's time for Nishiura to run off to WATCH a baseball match! Specifically, it's between a couple of teams known as Musashino and Urawasogo. One of the Musashino players demands for Abe to get down there and talk to him, and we learn that this chap is HARUNA, the swell pitcher Abe teamed up with before! The two of them have a snippy little conversation before Haruna runs off to play.
The match begins, and there's a lot of babbling among the crowd watching and gushing about how amazing Haruna is. Abe kindly tells us that Haruna is actually NOT a swell pitcher because he STRICTLY limits himself to eighty pitches per match no matter what! Strictly!! Watching Haruna throw, Mihashi gets more and more uncomfortable and insecure about his own abilities.

Mihashi's nose was so... SHINY in the original! Also, shading.
But Sakaeguchi looked so adorable in the original! Then again, he looks adorable in the new version too, so whatever.
I rather liked the original here because it reflected the comic style rather nicely.
