:: Episode 212: Something about medicine or apples...
9 Kai (9th Inning)
Summary
This glorious episode begins with Yoshito striking a victorious pose on base one. Bijo is still reading Nishiura's signs as Ko steps up to bat, allowing him to get a great hit with ease. Abe, counting Mihashi's pitches, laments over his current uselessness. Tetsuro is next, and then Yano who manages to bring another point in with Yoshito. Naturally, Yano is dissatisfied with this, but Takii is even more so since Yano had been ignoring his instructions.
Tajima notices that something is off, and together with Momoe, comes to the conclusion that their signs are being read. Momoe decides to leave the signs to Tajima, telling him to cooperate with Mihashi. Nishiura will now have both the catcher AND pitcher decide how things get done! GOOD FOR THEM!
Makoto is up! Takii gives him signs to hit however he likes, which pleases him immensely. Even though Momoe has stopped giving out signs, Makoto hits and sends the ball flying FAR OUT! It's a THREE RUN HOMERUN!!! WOW!!!!! Takii looks on with a 'whatever' kind of face while the Nishiuralings just stand there gaping like fools.
Naomasa's turn, and scary music starts playing in the background as Mihashi crumbles like a cookie. He fails at throwing completely, and Naomasa gets to walk. The camera shakes dramatically as the next batter, Takumi, sends the ball flying towards Sakaeguchi and Sakaeguchi totally screws up his catching. Mihashi starts wondering if their team breakdown is all Abe's fault, then flashes back to what Sakaeguchi said in episode three - if Mihashi crumbles, the whole team will fall apart. WHICH MEANS! Everything is MIHASHI'S fault! He pulls himself together and bellows out to his teammates. Tajima follows, lifting everyone's spirits. This isn't over yet! Yeah, just keep telling yourselves that, Nishiura. They manage to fail Takamitsu, and Takii looks at their recovery with a wonderful Electrode grin on his face.
The next batter, Takeshi, is totally fired up, but so is Mihashi. He gives Tajima a real head-shake, and they really do decide on the next pitch together! The fantastic 'main theme' starts playing in the background as Mihashi realizes that shaking his head is okay. This would totally have brought a tear to my eye if I still cared about Nishiura, but whatcha gonna do.
And so, the round ends with Takeshi failing at his last time batting... ever?
Bijo gets ready for their last round of defense! Takii doesn't want Takumi to bat anymore, but he wants to spare Yu, so it's all up to Yoshito! Takumi is okay with this, much to Takeshi's relief. The Bijo players joke around about their random teammate Shuhei, and Takii goes all Wolverine on them. This is no time for jokes, the match isn't over yet!
Nishiura think they're lucky for getting Yoshito back instead of Yu, but they'll regret THAT smugness.
Suyama gets on base. Kazuki tries to get some information out of Roka again, but he quickly gives up due to Roka's seemingly bad mood.
Tajima is next, and he manages to get in a point with Suyama already! Yoshito groans as Takeshi runs up and apologizes. It turns out that the thing with Shuhei they joked about just now actually happened! They decide to do their best to crush the remaining batters to brighten up the mood.
And brighten the mood they do! Hanai and Oki go straight out, and a new sad yet dramatic kind of background music starts playing as it's Nishihiro's turn again. Needless to say, Yoshito and Takeshi pummel him to the ground pretty badly.
The game is over! Nishiura loses! Bijo wins! Nishiura LOSES! The Bijolings crazily stumble onto the field to celebrate. Nishiura run off to thank their supporters before breaking down like Toseiish weeds. The match finished at 11-6, which was nothing compared to what Sakitama had to go through, so Nishiura can kindly shut up and get over it.
There's a dramatic moment as Abe staggers towards Mihashi on his shiny new crutches. They try to talk to each other, but nothing really comes out, so Abe just gives Mihashi an awkward hug.
Momoe slaps the players around a bit to snap them out of their self pity, and they walk off towards the sunset to prepare for their baseball-related future.
Best parts
Did you see Makoto when he went off to bat? He was SO adorable!!
That one shot with Takeshi looking dejected after he failed at batting and Nishiura running past him in the background is THE most dramatic thing EVER and is probably what convinced me that I like Takeshi's character after all.
That thing with Shuhei!!
Yoshito was being soooo awesome throughout this whole episode!!
Nishiura LOSING! I think I would have enjoyed this even if I didn't have a grudge against Nishiura - unbeatable main characters are friggin' obnoxious.
